Antiques column: Writing bureau to make a comeback?

A Happy New Year to you all,

I explained to you in my last article how an auction works. In 2014 I hope to tell you a bit more about the sort of antiques and collectables that are sold at auction, from the more mundane to the more exotic.

I’m going to start with an item of furniture which, from practical origins, has evolved through many decorative forms, falling in and out of fashion and which I think may make a comeback in 2014 and beyond...the writing bureau.

The bureau as we know it evolved from the writing box and was originally made in two sections until the 17th century.

Full feature in this week’s Pocklington Post (9 January).
