Villagers in Shiptonthorpe are hoping to repeat the sell-out successes of their four previous pantomimes when they perform a modern day take on the classic tale Robin Hood.

Robin Hood and the Merry Maids of Shiptonthorpe, written and directed by Diane Heaven, features a cast and support crew from Shiptonthorpe and surrounding villages.

Diane said: “This year, it’s a new version of the classic Robin Hood story of romance and good against evil, but with added elements including the Sheriff’s taxi firm, a wicked potato merchant and a pie and pea lady.”

Jackie Hutton, who plays the hero, Robin Hood, said: “The reputation of the Shiptonthorpe panto has grown and lots of people now want to get involved.

“We’re delighted that, once again, the cast is a great mix of young and old with varying levels of acting experience and several children are taking part alongside their parents.

“In one instance, a whole family of five are taking to the stage. It promises to be another great show.”

Robin Hood and the Merry Maids of Shiptonthorpe opens in Shiptonthorpe Village Hall, on Station Road, at 7pm tomorrow and plays across two weekends with performances on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening on 17 and 18 and 24 and 25 January.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children and are available from Janet Miller on 01430 872276.

All funds raised by the pantomime will go to Shiptonthorpe Village Hall for the new kitchen and store room extension.
