Letter: Payments have been a lifeline

Your report from Professor Grant’s report spelling out what may happen to farming is every farmer’s nightmare.

With prices as they are the single farm payment has been a lifeline for the past three years at least.

It does not mean the difference to making a profit or loss.Ask any bank manager and he will tell you of the perilous state of world wide farming – not just ourselves and Europe.

If we leave the EU Liz Truss informs us there is no Plan B to replace subsidies.

The nation’s food bill could go through the roof if we become totally dependent on imports.

We must all think very carefully on the way we vote in the future.
