Letter: Council’s missed opportunities to provide parking

I have to say Pocklington Town Council is a joke when it comes to the parking issues in the town, in my view.

They have scorned opportunity after opportunity to provide adequate parking in the town, which would help local business. In previous years they could have built car parks in the Old Dairy, Burgess, Bonds’ garage x 2, Zillatel, Community Youth Centre, Kandy’s Railway Station and the latest site The Co-op.

The community centre for me was the biggest mistake, central position, easy access to town centre. As a member of Pocklington Runners, I’ve helped to park 50 cars in there on Snake Lane day, all with access to drive away whenever they had finished the race.

With every opportunity it’s always the same, they hand out planning permission to anyone who wants to build housing. Car parking is the last thing on their minds.

Why?
