A BRANCH of the Royal British Legion has saluted its supporters after helping to raise £10,009 during the recent Poppy Appeal.
The Pocklington group broke the five-figure mark for the very first time, and thanked both the volunteers who gave up their spare time to sell the poppies in the run up to Remembrance Day, and those who donated.
David Allison, honorary secretary of the branch said: “We would like to express our thanks to everyone who gave so generously and to those business premises and schools who were kind enough to take a poppy collection tin.
“For more than a decade Hazel Marshall and Tony Petch have dedicated a tremendous amount of time and energy organising the appeal and counting the proceeds.
“On behalf of us all at the Pocklington Royal British Legion, I should take this opportunity of expressing our huge debt to them, and to the dwindling band of door-to-door collectors who do so much to support the ex-service community and their dependants.”
