Students at a karate club in Barmby Moor can hone their martial arts skills thanks to a company in York, which has donated two kick shields to the club.

GKR Karate, which runs karate lessons at the village hall on Fridays, received the shields from RB Plumbing and Heating (York) Ltd.

The club’s instructor Louise Bartlett said: “It helps the students realise the easiest way to hit and kick. Technically it is fantastic for the club.

“We were sharing two kickbags around the students and they were not enough.

“I am very grateful the company donated them to us. It’s a big help.”

Since receiving the shields, a number of students at the club have bought their own to bring to the classes.

GKR Karate also holds classes at St Mary’s Parish Church Hall on Sancton Road, Market Weighton, on Saturdays.
