A talented illustrator who was born and raised in Barmby Moor has bagged a prestigious award.

Mark Nicholas Blenkin, 33, who is undertaking a masters degree in illustration at The Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge, has received an award from the Macmillan Prize for Illustration.

The Macmillan Prize for Illustration has a long history of encouraging talent and passion for storytelling. It gives the Lara Jones Award to the entrant who shows the most promise as an illustrator of books for babies or very young children. Former Woldgate College pupil Mark won this award for his entry, a children’s book called ‘Wellies Has Lost His Boot’. He said: “It feels tremendously exciting to win this award amongst such talent. I moved to London in 2007 to pursue a career in children’s book illustration and now this dream seems that little bit closer, I couldn’t be more pleased.”
