Volunteers are being sought to help the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at HMP Full Sutton.
The IMB monitors the day-to-life in the prison and ensures that proper standards of care and decency are maintained.
Volunteers do not need any special qualifications or experience, as comprehensive training is provided.
The board welcomes applications from people over 18 years of age from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Members need to be open minded, caring, a good listener, have the ability to challenge and have good communication skills.
Board members are appointed by the Minister of Justice and new appointees will join existing members of the board, monitoring the prison, talking to prisoners and staff and attending monthly board meetings.
Time commitments vary but it is helpful to visit the prison during most weeks. Members do not receive a salary but expenses will be covered.
Interested people can visit www.justice.gov.uk/about/imb to find out more about being an IMB member or can request further information by calling on 01759 475153 and leaving their name, address and phone number with the IMB clerk or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
