A charitable hairdressers and beauty salon raised hundreds of pounds by holding a ‘Wear it Pink’ day for a breast cancer charity.

Austin Charles hairdressers and Gemstones Nail and Beauty, based at the same building on York Road, took part in Breast Cancer Campaign’s biggest, pinkest fundraising event to help beat breast cancer.

The two businesses held a raffle and cake stall, with prizes donated by local businesses and cakes made by customers, who also donated money to the cause.

All the takings from Austin Charles went to the charity and altogether the two businesses raised almost £1,300.

Tracey Spence, manager of Austin Charles’ Market Weighton branch, said: “We are very pleased. We raised £300 more than last year it was a good day.

“It’s something we hope to carry on doing every year.”

This is the fourth year the hairdressers and salon have held a Wear it Pink day.
