A community football club in Wilberfoss is celebrating after netting a £1,000 donation.

Wilberfoss AFC has been given the cash by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as part of the builder’s Community Champions project.

Persimmon is donating £24,000 to local groups and charities over 12 months.

The recent donation will help fund a new full size set of goals for the football club which currently manages nine teams ranging from veterans to Under-8’s teams.

Chris Wills, chairman at Wilberfoss AFC was delighted with the donation.

He said: “On behalf of the senior and junior football team I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you. The new goals will be used by our Under-16’s boys and girls team as well as the adult reserve squad.

“We were in desperate need for new goals after our existing set had been mended on numerous occasion.

“As the club is very popular, we are continually fundraising to help maintain our facilities. And thanks to Persimmon we can finally buy our new goals and start working towards our next projects.”

Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said the community spirit initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

He said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Wilberfoss Football Club with this money.”
