Houses in the area were left without power for 18 hours after a fallen tree brought down an overhead power line.

Adverse weather conditions and strong winds on Saturday caused powercuts which affected more than 4,000 houses across East Yorkshire including 71 residents in the YO42 area code.

A spokeswoman for Northern Powergrid said: “On Saturday strong winds brought down a tree onto one of our overhead power lines at around 5am causing a power cut for 71 of our customers in the YO42 area.

“We’re very sorry for the disruption while our engineers worked to repair the damage and restore their power.

“We have proactively contacted our customers who were without electricity for more than 12 hours and offered them a guaranteed standard payment for the inconvenience caused.”

Power was restored to customers of Northern Powergrid at around 11pm on Saturday night.

The strong winds also brought down a tree blocking the Barmby Moor junction off the A1079.

The tree has now been removed.
