Those with a passion for the great outdoors can get out and about and enjoy the rich beauty and heritage of a unique part of the county this month.
The Yorkshire Wolds Walking and Outdoors Festival, organised by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire, takes place from 12 to 20 September.
Now in its fifth year, the festival has grown from humble beginnings of 12 events over one weekend back in 2009, to a programme of over 70 events over nine days now. These include all manner of outdoor activities, all with one thing in common; all take place either in or around the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds.
Around 30 partners, including walking, cycling and horse riding organisations, businesses and individuals, arrange events which make for an eclectic and tantalising offer. Nearby there will be Nordic Walking at Bishop Wilton on 12 September, Natural Navigation at Allerthorpe on 13 September, foray in Millington Woods on 14 September, horse riding from Burnby on 20 September, which is also the date of a walk from Kilnwick Percy. Another walk taking place during the festival is a section of the popular Pilgrimage of Grace trail, on 19 September. The Walking and Outdoors Festival programmes can be viewed and downloaded at www.theyorkshirewolds.com and www.visithullandeastyorkshire.com Copies of the programme are also available at tourist information centres, tourist information points and other outlets throughout the Wolds.
