Engineer’s coast-to-coast cycling success

An engineer has used his pedal power to complete a three-day coast-to-coast cycling challenge for charity.

Mike Cargill, of Millington, cycled from Millington to Morecambe using the Way of the Roses cycle route and back to Millington via Ingleton, Wensleydale and Bridlington, a total distance of 333 miles.

The 49-year-old was joined on the last day by his wife Ali and a few people who work at Pocklington’s Francis Scaife Sports Centre.

Mike chose to raise funds for the Stroke Association after his sister-in-law died of a stroke last year.

He has so far managed to raise just over £520 for the charity.

He said: “It went very well, although I did have severe leg aching afterwards.

“It took a few days to recover.”

Mike has thanked staff from the Gate Inn in Millington, who held a pub quiz and donated half of the proceeds to Mike to support his fundraising efforts.

Mike is still welcoming donations and anyone who would like to show their support can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/Mike-Cargill1.
