Students from Pocklington School’s Musical Theatre Society were invited to perform before more than 120 guests at Cave Castle Hotel.

The evening was the Haltemprice and Howden Conservative Association President’s Dinner, hosted by president David Jackson and with David Davis MP attending. The guest speaker for the evening was Sir Tim Rice, and the 10 students performed a medley of songs written by the famous lyricist, including ‘Hakuna Matata’ from ‘The Lion King’, ‘Benjamin Calypso’ from ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, and concluding with the ‘Anthem’ from ‘Chess’.

The students were thrilled to perform before, and then meet Sir Tim.

Organiser Tom Baarda said: “It was such a thrill to meet someone of his standing. He has made such an impact on the world of musical theatre, it was a privilege to speak to him and tell him of our experiences and ambitions.”
