Youngsters at a local junior school have had a taste of what life as a Second World War evacuee was like.
Pupils in Year 5 at Pocklington Community Junior School took part in a World War Two Evacuee Day, which involved them dressing up as evacuees and wearing gas masks.
All the children we re also given different names for the day.
During the morning, lessons were held as they would have been during the Second World War and in the afternoon a Strictly Come Wartime Dancing competition took place.
The day finished with the children singing wartime songs, including music by Vera Lynn.
Sue Yeates, from the Kirkland Street school, said: “They thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an experience for them. It was a very different way of life.”
