Pupils and staff at schools across the region enjoyed dressing up as their favourite literary characters for World Book Day.

Among the schools in the area that celebrated World Book Day was Bishop Wilton Primary, which held a Big Book Quiz. Two teams competed against each other - Garrowby and Worsendale - with Garrowby winning by a narrow margin.

Mary Lazenby, from the school, said: “Well done, to all the children for taking part and we were very impressed by their book knowledge, it was a very enjoyable afternoon.”

Children and staff at Market Weighton Pre-School also enjoyed dressing up for the annual celebration of authors, illustrators and literature.
