A talented sixth-former at Pocklington School scooped first prize in his age group at the Hull Truck Theatre’s Young Writers Festival 2013.
Patrick Russell, 18, was the winner of the 15-18 age group with his play ‘The Final Push’.
Following a brief to write a short play based on the theme ‘Hours of Daylight’, Patrick created a comedy about a group of friends on the day of their last A-level exam.
Addressing thoughts on education, exam stress and future prospects, it follows a group of friends as they stumble through the final day of their school careers.
Pocklington School headmaster Mark Ronan said: “Patrick is a talented writer, we are enormously proud of his recent success at the Young Writer’s Festival and look forward to seeing more of his work on the stage in the future.”
Sixteen plays by young writers were shortlisted for the finals and were performed over four nights by the Youth Theatre.
At the prize giving ceremony on Saturday 6 April Patrick was presented with £125 for himself and £125 for the school.
