FIVE teachers who have racked up 170 years of service between them have retired.
Harry Atkinson, Cath Russell, Geoff Pickles, Irene Gowland and Pete Williamson have all been working at Woldgate College and a presentation was held for each of them, at the school, where other members of staff praised the contribution they had made.
Mr Atkinson, who was a special needs teacher, modern languages teacher Mrs Russell, design and technology teacher Mr Pickles, Mrs Gowland, who was head of health and social care and Mr Williamson, head of special education needs, have taught at Woldgate for a combined total of 89 years.
But collectively, they also have over 80 years of teaching experience at other schools.
Jeff Bower, headteacher of Woldgate, said: “People are hugely aware of how many years they have taught and service they have given. They will be hard to replace and will leave a big hole.”
