Newlands School Yorkshire is the new name of Pocklington Montessori School after it was decided they needed to differentiate themselves from the nursery.
The new name reflects more than the Montessori aspect, although it will still stick to the values of a Montessori school.
Newlands School Yorkshire is owned by Beacon House, which has hundreds of schools across the world.
“We are moving in new directions,” said Malcolm Payton, director of schools for Beacon House. “We have new technology, we have opened a multimedia suite at the school and all the children have iPads.”
Newlands School Yorkshire is one of two in the UK with the Newlands School name. The other, in Seaford near Brighton, is celebrating its 200th year this year, so it was decided to rename Pocklington Montessori School in honour of the one on the South Coast.
Beacon House’s flagship school, in Lahore, Pakistan, is also called Newlands School, as is one in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Both Newlands School Yorkshire and Pocklington Montessori Nursery will continue to be run by Tracy Kelly.
Meanwhile, the pupils and staff of Newlands School Yorkshire celebrated a bumper harvest with the residents of Scaife Garth, Pocklington.
The children were extremely excited to be performing their harvest festival poems, songs and prayer as well as presenting their audience with the harvest produce they had collected.
The children and residents had a wonderful time together sharing this autumnal celebration.
