A school celebrating it’s 50th birthday this year welcomed a special visitor recently, when Lord Halifax called in to officially open the school’s new anniversary garden.

Lord Halifax, who lives on the Garrowby Estate, was invited to Bugthope Primary School to cut the ribbon.

The garden, designed by five pupils at the school, features a large ceramic ‘50’, made from tiles embossed with everyone’s hands from the school, children and staff.

Adele Sunderland, from the school, said: “It was really nice. The local vicar did a blessing.

“The children love the new garden.”

Bugthorpe Primary held a party last month to mark its 50th anniversary, which lots of current and ex-pupils attended.
