‘Good’ rating for primary school

CELEBRATIONS are taking place at St Mary’s Primary School in Market Weighton after the school was described as ‘good’ by Ofsted inspectors.

The school was classed as good in every category, including achievement of pupils, quality of teaching and behaviour of pupils.

A previous inspection had described the overall effectiveness of the school as ‘satisfactory’ but the inspectors ruled that significant improvements had been made since the last inspection.

Their report said: “The recently appointed headteacher and staff team have a clear vision and understanding of how successful the school can be.

“With the support of the governing body, they have improved the school’s performance from being satisfactory to good since the previous inspection.”

Headteacher Julie Sutherland is delighted with the outcome of the inspection.
