Pocklington and District Local History Group will join in with Pocklington School’s ‘Pocklington 500’ celebrations when Phil Gilbank presents The Rise and Fall of the Dolman family on Thursday 20 March.
Founders of the school, John Dolman, in 1514, and Thomas Dolman, in 1552, will be key figures in the talk.
The earliest reference to a Dolman at Pocklington is in 1297. The family’s major rise in fortunes was 1550-1650 but an equally spectacular fall followed 1650-1750. The Dolmans finally sold the Manor of Pocklington in 1792.
The talk will be in the library at Pocklington School at 7.30pm and all are welcome. The library will be open from 7pm so that visitors can view the Pocklington 500 exhibition of 500 years of the school’s history.
