Musicians and former students of Pocklington School will combine forces with current pupils to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the school.
The school is holding its Quincentenary Music Festival on 10 and 11 May in the Tom Stoppard Theatre to mark the milestone year.
The choir and orchestra of Pocklington School will perform choral works by Mozart, Rutter and Tavener on the Saturday, featuring performances by former students Roxana Popescu and Georgiana Fodor.
On the Sunday, visitors to Burnby Hall Gardens can enjoy some swing music performed by the Pocklington School swing band who will be launching their new CD, ‘Quinswingtenary’.
This will be followed by an evening concert featuring former students Ioana Ilie, Georgi Chiriac and Lucy Butcher.
The evening and the festival will conclude with a Piano recital by Alexandra Dariescu, who, since leaving Pocklington School in 2003, has taken the musical world by storm and won a number of accolades for her contribution to classical music.
