Sophie Hopkins left Woldgate in 2007 with 8 GCSEs, her best being her A* in Drama.

Her final practical assessment for this Drama qualification stood out as, performing before the external moderator as an example of our best work, Sophie corpsed, coming out of character with the giggles. Her costume had become caught on a piece of scenery causing her to be stuck in her seat and unable to move! Sophie was still awarded full marks for her wonderful portrayal of Grusha in Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle despite ‘sustaining character’ being on the mark scheme.

The examiner remarked that you couldn’t award anything less than full marks for such a detailed and superb performance, even with her little hiccup!

After leaving Woldgate School, Sophie continued with her study of theatre and performance, training with theatre company Fourth Monkey.

She has worked for ITV, BBC, The Discovery Channel US and rather excitingly, will be appearing on our screens later this year in Dr Who spin-off Class on BBC Three! Look out for our very own Sophie Hopkins saving the universe on a screen near you!
