This is the shocking picture of Comet the Lurcher after his previous owner tried to fix his injuries from badger baiting by using a stapler.

Comet, believed to be about three-years-old, is now on the road to recovery after he was left dumped outside of a vets when his owners realised they couldn’t treat his horrific wounds.

The badger had managed to tear off the bottom of Comet’s face, and staff at the Hull Animal Welfare Trust’s Sunnydene Shelter in South Cave were appalled to see how the owners had attempted to reconstruct his bludgeoned face.
