A COUPLE have proved that the sparkle has not gone out their marriage having celebrated their diamond anniversary.
John and Anne Harrison of St John’s Road, Stamford Bridge, marked their matrimonial milestone with a quiet day at home followed by a meal with close family and friends.
The pair met as friends in Pocklington while Anne was still at school. They were married at All Saints’ Church in the town on 14 July, 1951.
John, who is now 84 years-old, grew up on his father’s farm in Yapham and continued to work there for years after the happy couple married and settled in Pocklington.
They then moved to a smallholding in Full Sutton.
Anne, who is now 80 years-old, worked at the council offices in Pocklington before having two children, Michael and Lynne. They now have four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
John put their long-lasting marriage down to working together.
He said: “If you fall out, you’ve got to fall in again!”
