POLICE in Pocklington and Market Weighton are set to use the online phenomenon of Twitter to help communicate more with the public.
The information is to be relayed through PC Kevin Jones, who works out of the Pocklington station on George Street.
Sergeant Pete Rogers of Pocklington Police said: “It is hoped that Twitter will create another means by which we are able to keep in touch with our local community and provide residents with up to the minute local information.
“It will provide an extra insight into policing in their neighbourhood.”
The social networking website was launched five years ago and now has over 200 million active users generating 65 million ‘tweets’ a day. Users are allowed to put down shortened messages no longer than 140 letters.
It is often described as text messages for computer users.
