Cow shot and killed in village

An investigation has been launched after a cow was shot and killed in what police have called “a shocking act of cruelty”.

At about 11pm on Saturday, a cow in a field at Dunnington was shot through the eye, causing fatal injuries.

Officers from York police and North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Taskforce are investigating the incident.

PC Dan Kirven, of York police, said: “I would like the public and members of the local farming community to come to me or the Rural Taskforce with any information they may have that could assist us with our enquiries.”
