The Countess of Wessex has had to cancel her visit to Driffield Showground today, where she was due to open the new events centre, The Rix Pavilion.

Sophie Wessex was expected to arrive by helicopter, but her visit has been cancelled at the eleventh hour. It is believed there was a fault with the helicopter.

The £400,000 facility will now be opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding, the Hon Susan Cunliffe-Lister, at a Grand Opening Ceremony being held by the Driffield Agricultural Society.

The Rix Pavilion will provide the region with a unique facility.

The venue will be able comfortably seat 350 people for a seated dinner and dance and in excess of over 700 people theatre style.

The venue will also incorporate all the expected facilities, including spacious kitchens and toilets to service these larger events. The showground also provides ample car parking and the potential for camping to support events at the Rix Pavilion.
