A popular community centre in Market Weighton looks set to close, with the founder of the church which runs the centre moving on to pastures new.

Living Springs Ministries was founded by Pastor Dr Alex Appiah in February 2007. Until recently, the church met at The Life Centre, which is a community training facility, on Market Weighton’s High Street.

Over recent years, The Life Centre has provided modern learning and training facilities available to all members of the local community. It has also provided a safe and comfortable environment off the streets, to engage disadvantaged young people, help them overcome the barriers in their lives, and reduce anti-social behaviour in the local community.

In addition, it has offered support for people looking for work and held IT classes.

The centre now faces closure, unless someone else in the community takes over the running of the facility.

Dr Appiah’s Farewell and Thanksgiving Service will be held on 22 May at 3.30pm at The Life Centre, and local residents, particularly beneficiaries of the centre, are invited to attend the event.
