On Sunday 12 June Tilly Richmond (Year 7) completed the Lake Windermere Great North Swim.

This was a huge achievement for Tilly who has been training hard over the last few months, including open water swimming at Allerthorpe Lake in temperatures of 12 to 13 degrees centigrade.

Fortunately, the water temperature in Lake Windermere was a very pleasant 20c on Sunday, although it got choppy with waves at times.

Tilly did really well and pushed herself to complete the half mile swim which is further than she had ever swam in open water before.

At 12 years old she was one of the youngest people ever to take on the challenge. 12 is the minimum entry age and there were only a handful of children taking part.

Tilly swam the half-mile course with her father and can’t wait to enter again next year.

Tilly raised £470 for the PDSA, who fully supported her throughout her training.
