Chinese banquet’s marathon money

SCOFFING down a Chinese meal may not be the best preparation for running 26 miles, but a fundraising duo boosted their cash total with a charity in Pocklington.

Fitness fanatics Marcus Bourne and Sarah Hargreaves took time off from their hectic training schedule for the London Marathon to invite friends to dinner at the Garden Chinese Restaurant to help pull in the pounds for their chosen charity.

The Pocklington Runners pair are trying to raise money for the Round Table Children’s Wish, which grants wishes to children under the age of 17 who have life-threatening illnesses.

Marcus said: “It’s a great way to raise money. People pay a fixed price for a nice meal and £5 from each person goes towards the charity.

“With that and the raffle held at the end of the meal, we raised £325 and everyone had a great time”.

Marcus and Sarah are well on their way to raising around £4,000 for their chosen charity.

They are part of a 23-strong team from Pocklington Runners who will be taking on the London Marathon this weekend, a record number.
