A charity is offering runners the chance to enter the York 10k for free, and staff from the charity’s Pocklington branch have been encouraging local residents to sign up.

Sue Ryder is waiving the £25 registration fee for all new runners and offering existing runners a free place for a friend.

Staff at Sue Ryder’s shop on Pocklington’s Market Street have been giving out leaflets and talking to customers about the offer in an effort to get more people to register for the event.

Georgina Abbott, a regional fundraiser for the charity, said: “We are so excited to be one of only a few charities offering free places in the York 10k.

“We decided to waive the registration fee and offer our existing runners a free place for a friend because we want as many people to join our team and have the chance to run this event surrounded by iconic landmarks”.

She added: “In return for a free place, we are asking people to raise as much as possible for our charity.”
