Pocklington Arts Centre celebrated Yorkshire Day in style this year by providing the taste of the county.

The Friends of Pocklington Art Centre organise a quarterly coffee morning and they decided to incorporate the idea with Yorkshire Day this year by providing Yorkshire Tea as well as homemade cakes.

Chair of Friends at Pocklington Arts Centre Ged Leach said: “The event went really well.

“We raised a good amount of money and had a decent amount of interest. I think we did Yorkshire proud.”

The Friends of Pocklington Art Centre’s main objectives are to promote a community spirit as well as helping to fundraise for the benefit of the centre.

The funds raised from the event will go towards capital projects or this year the major redevelopment work on the upper floor of the building where a new bar and meeting room are due to be built.

The work has been made possible by grants of around £400,000 but the Friends of the arts centre have donated £10,000 to the refurbishment with a further £4,000 going towards improvements on the ground floor.

Ged said: “The Arts Centre is a provincial theatre that needs to have a good community to make sure we get the best out of it.

“We are grateful to everyone who came along to the coffee morning for making it such a great event.”
