A cat rescue charity’s open day proved a huge success, with five felines finding new homes.

Caring for Cats (Yorkshire and Humber) hosted the open day at its homing centre on, York Road, Market Weighton for people to find out more about the charity, how to re-home a cat or how to become a volunteer.

There were stalls at the centre selling refreshments and buns. A tombola was also held. About £425 was raised for the charity.

Caring for Cats is dedicated to the rescue, care and re-homing of stray and feral cats in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Rose Atkin, a volunteer for the charity, said: “It was a great success.

“At the moment we are re-homing extremely well. Thank goodness we are re-homing the mature cats, which is excellent for us. However, the rescue centre in South Cave is bulging at the seams.”

The charity urgently needs more volunteers to look after the cats at the homing centre or rescue centre. Call Rose on 07967 627492 if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
