Improvements costing £1.6million will be carried out to a 12-mile stretch of the A1079 Hull to York road around the town of Market Weighton.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council contractors will begin work on Monday 20 June to resurface a length of the road between the Deepdale lay-by (Highgate junction) and Barmby Moor.

The scheme is planned to take 15 weeks and is due to be complete by early October.

The scheme will be carried out in four separate phases, and most of the work will be carried out overnight to lessen the impact on traffic.
