Entries increased significantly for this year’s 66th annual Pocklington Chrysanthemum Show, which has been hailed a success.

The event, held on Saturday, featured an exhibition of chrysanthemums, house plants, fruit and vegetables, cookery, wines, handicrafts, floral art, photography and childrens exhibits.

The show, organised by Pocklington Chrysanthemum Society, was held at Pocklington’s Burnby Hall and attracted about 430 entries, compared to about 290 last year.

Sheila Smith, a member of the society, said: “It went very well. Entries were up quite a lot and it was busy, there were a lot of people around.”

“There were a lot of cake and baking entries, handicrafts as well. It was very well supported.

“Everything was up. I couldn’t say one thing was better than the other.”
