East Cottingwith Cider Group organised a pie and cider evening in the village hall, attended by 50 people.

Its main purpose was to sample the village’s first home produced cider from apples picked in 2014, but there was also a pie tasting, featuring nine of the best, locally sourced pork pies.

In a blind tasting test by almost 50 people, the first three pies chosen were as follows:

1. Richard Wilson Butchers, East Cottingwith

2. WF Burton’s in Pocklington

3. Laverack & Son of Holme on Spalding Moor

The cider group’s first batch of cider was also pronounced as a winner, with more than 40 litres consumed on the night.

The group will be making cider again this year this Sunday (Sep 6) and Sunday October 11.
