AN INSECT-intrigued youngster is buzzing with excitement after claiming third place in a regional art competition.

James Oxford, of St Martin’s Primary School in Fangfoss, entered the Insect Festival art competition along with 60 pupils from the school and finished third in the eight to nine-year-old category.

Altogether, 300 schools from the York area entered the competition.

James, aged eight, received books and photographs of insects for his achievement.

Entrants must make a collage picture of an insect showing all of its body parts. James’ entry was a picture of a bee.

The Insect Festival was held at Yorkshire Museum and Gardens in York on 3 July.
