FARMERS are not generally seen as the all-singing all-dancing type, but one group heading to Holme-on-Spalding Moor are doing their best to dispel that myth.
Since 2004 The Singing Farmers - five tuneful farmers and a keyboard player from across Yorkshire - have been touring the county performing concerts to raise money for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).
Now they are heading to Holme-on-Spalding Moor for the first time to perform a concert at the village hall on March 30.
Chris Berry of Leeds is one of the Singing Farmers and came up with the idea. He organises the venues and brings the team together and said the group were looking forward to visiting the area.
“One of our greatest supporters Tom Sewell of Melbourne has raised lots of much-needed funds for RABI over the years and he has been wanting us to come here for a long time,” said Chris.
“I’m delighted that we’re coming and we’re looking forward to a full-house. Ticket sales are already going well. At that time we started we didn’t know just how popular the concerts were to become but we now sell over 1,000 tickets every year.”
Chris said that the shows are always well-received and the group work brilliantly together.
“We’re a family now, and we don’t change the formula as it works very well as it is.
“All of the singers bring something different and our styles complement each other.
“We normally sell out at all our venues quite quickly so I’d advise anyone who wants to come along to get their skates on!! added Chris.
The concerts include country music, Geordie folk songs, easy listening pop tunes and songs from the shows.
The Singing Farmers troupe is made up of Chris, Phillip Holden of Spennithorne, Charles Marwood and Lloyd Lockwood of Sheriff Hutton, Tony Richards of Glaisdale and Ken Jackson of Pontefract.
Tickets for the Holme-on-Spalding Moor concert cost £12 each and you should make your cheque payable to RABI. Send your request with a stamped addressed envelope for your tickets to: Singing Farmers Tickets, 2 Elmete Croft, Scholes, Leeds LS15 4BE.
