A Market Weighton shop which was closed for seven weeks after being hit by a flash flood in July is back open after a total refurbishment.
Women’s fashion retailer Coco Boutique, on High Street, was flooded from front to back with seven inches of rain which destroyed around £10,000 worth of stock.
The deluge, on 20 July, also destroyed the skirting boards and the counter and the shop needed to be completely dehumidified prior to refurbishment.
Now owner Sue Sissons, 50, is re-opening again tomorrow with a celebration for customers, including a free bubbly give away and a free prize draw for a £50 gift voucher for the shop.
“It’s unbelievable how just one hour of rain can close a shop for seven weeks,” said Sue, who thankfully was insured but is still waiting for the insurance money to come through.
The mother-of-two, who has lived in Market Weighton all her life, added: “It was dreadful, very upsetting and worrying and there were so many things to organise. Hopefully we’ll get all our old customers back!”
