Extra police have been patrolling Pocklington over the weekend in a bid to identify the person responsible for causing damage to almost 100 cars in the town over the space of a matter of days.

Police have now received 99 reports of cars having had tyres intentionally punctured in the town since the middle of last week.

The offences have occurred all over the town, overnight Wednesday 2 to Thursday 3 September and again Thursday 3 to Friday 4 September.

Most reports are from 8pm to 8am but enquiries have revealed a more specific time of 1am to 2.30am in some cases.

Officers are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and have been provided a description of a possible suspect. He is an adult man, slim to medium build, with short, dark hair which is balding on top and may be with a white van.

Inspector Jo York said: “I believe the man is local and knows the area well. There is already much talk about this around Pocklington and someone in the town must know who this is, or know something about it. I would urge anyone who has information to come forward and share it with us so we can identify and locate the person causing this mindless vandalism that has affected so many residents in the town.”

Anyone with information should call log 196 of September 3 2015 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
