EAST Riding Council is asking people to get involved with future development in the region.
The council is preparing a blueprint known as the Local Development Framework, which will form the development plan for the East Riding and be used to determine where and how the new places for people to live and work in should be built.
The LDF w
ill be used to decide planning applications for investment and development proposals for the next 15 to 20 years.
The council has prepared a document for public consultation which includes issues such as housing need, rising population and flood risk.
Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet portfolio holder for policy, performance and partnerships, said: “I do urge residents and interest groups to get involved in this very important process that will shape the future of the East Riding.
“People need to make their views known now to have real influence over what is inevitably a lengthy process.
“Although government policy broadly stipulates how many new homes should be built in the East Riding, the Local Development Framework will determine where development will take place so that new housing is suitable and sustainable and makes best use of the land.
“The LDF will also determine how we can best support and promote the local economy and protect the quality of our environment”
The public consultation will run until 13 June. It can be viewed online at www.eastriding.gov.uk/planning/ldf and is also available in libraries and the council’s customer service centres. Once the consultation is finished, a further draft will be published for consultation next year.
