POCKLINGTON'S Tower Captain has hung up his bell rope after 20 years of service.
Neil Turner, chief bell ringer at All Saints’ Church, has decided to step down.

Jane Moll, from the bell ringing group, said: “He has been a very conscientious leader and led the ringing at Pocklington both for Sunday services and practices.

“Neil has taught many to ring during his tenure – in fact for the millennium he taught the entire band at Barmby Moor – at times there were over 20 in the tower.”

Mr Turner is also a long established member of the Yorkshire Association of Bell Ringers and has rung and conducted many peals and quarter peals.

Jim Startin will take over as Ringing Master but the group is looking for more members.

People interested in becoming ringers are asked to contact (01759) 306395 or go along to a practice at All Saints’ Church on a Tuesday ay 7.30pm. Practices restart after the summer on September 9.
