A SCHOOL has employed the help of the local police and councillors in an effort to quell congestion problems outside their premises.
Market Weighton Infant School invited members of the Local Action Team to view the problems caused on Princess Road.
The school have been encouraging parents to park away from the street when dropping off or picking up their children in a bid to m
ake it safer.
It was made one way several years ago which relieved the problem, but headteacher Janet Drewery says there are still problems being caused by cars fighting for space and the buses that pick up youngsters.
Some parents turn up more than half an hour before the end of school to ensure a space on Princess Road.
Residents have also made complaints as some cars are left obscuring driveways.
In a bid to ease the problem, the school introduced a 'park and stride' scheme last year in which parents are encouraged to park in nearby Tesco and make the short journey on foot.
Mrs Drewery said some parents have embraced the idea, but others still need to make the effort.
She explained: "The action team is working with the school and looking at the issue of safety on a morning and on a night.
"It's been ongoing for some time and that's why it's been picked up by the team.
"It's the number of cars that come in. Having buses here as well makes it more difficult, the residents also get upset and understandably so.
"We want to reduce the number of cars coming in. We appreciate the support from the parents that are walking to school and using the park and stride scheme.
"At the end of the day it's the safety of the children and the adults."
East Riding and town councillor, David Rudd, who is a member of the team was there on Monday afternoon to look at the situation.
He said: "The action teams were established to look into local issues, including the police, fire service and local councillors and it's been very successful and are getting a lot of things done.
"We think there will be movement on this situation, the park and stride scheme is working and will improve."
