THE CHAINS of office were handed over to a new Mayor of Pocklington during a ceremony at the Arts Centre.
Councillor David Sykes will take up the position for the forthcoming year, which has seen the role of deputy mayor being handed over to Councillor Martin Cooper.
The ceremony brought the curtain down on Councillor Jeff Shepherd's year in office.
Dignitaries from other councils and organisations from around the region were at the hand-over ceremony where drinks and refreshments were served, most notably a seven-litre bottle of wine given as a gift by the councillors in Pocklington's French twin town, Pays-de-Racan.
As mayor, he will be the public face of Pocklington Town Council and will be expected to attend functions and events around the region.
He will also chair monthly meetings of the council.
He has already highlighted that he hopes to help maintain a standard of cleanliness in the town, help to build a skate park for the youngsters and aim for better links with the residents with regular surgeries.
