POCKLINGTON'S sports centre was officially opened by leading councillors and a former TV star.
East Riding Council chairman, Bryan Pearson, and fellow councillor, Jane Evison, were joined by former Gladiator star Warren Furman – aka Ace – to cut the ribbon to the all-improved Francis Scaife facility.
Mr Furman was "Ace" in the hit programme when it was first screened on ITV in the early 1990s.

The Burnby Lane centre underwent an £800,000 upgrade which saw a new gym and improved wet changing rooms.

It now boasts a new changing village similar to the pool at Beverley.
Despite minor delays, the work at Pocklington took six months with minimum disruption.

While the pool had to be closed, the gym was moved into the sports hall while fitness classes continued.

Councillor Jane Evison said: "The work in Pocklington highlights East Riding Council's commitment to continuing to improve the leisure facilities which are available to peoplethroughout the East Riding."
