John Thirsk beat off the competition to romp home in this morning Kiplingcotes Derby.
The race - in driving rain along muddy farm tracks and green lanes - was hotly contested by 12 riders and horses.

Eventually John Thirsk, riding Maisie, romped home to win the race that started in 1519.
