IT'S almost two years since Spittal Bridge re-opened yet the project has not been finished off, say Fangfoss residents.
The bridge collapsed following major flooding in the area in June 2007.
The damage to the bridge was assessed as beyond repair and East Riding Council decided to replace it.
The route between Pocklington and Fangfoss was closed and traffic dive
rted via the A1079 and Wilberfoss.
It re-opened in December 2007. The length of the bridge closure was criticised by some local residents and drivers using the diversion complained about the of the state of the roads.
At the time East Riding Council said barrier, fencing, footpath and verge reinstatement works would be completed after Christmas 2007. Fangfoss residents says this still has not been completed, 23 months later.
Lyn Grant said there was still orange netting on one side of the bridge, where there should be safety barriers. She said: “That road is notorious, there’s quite a lot of accidents on that bend. If somebody comes off the road in the winter, that pole that’s not finished off could go through the windscreen.
“They’ve left the worst one unfinished, the barrier needs to be there on the most dangerous side.”
She said the parish council were concerned and had contacted East Riding Council but nothing had been done.
A spokesman for East Riding council said: “The only outstanding work is the erection of a safety barrier on one corner. The other three corners have been done. The council has told Fangfoss Parish Council that the work will be completed by the end of the current financial year on 31 March 2010.”
