A £10,000 grant has been awarded to Bugthorpe War Memorial Institute and will be used to conserve and commemorate the building and its origins.

The grant has been awarded through Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War: then and now programme and will help fund a project that focuses on restoring the building’s name stone and replacing the paper Roll of Honour with a permanent stone one.

It will enable volunteers to undertake research relating to the names and lives of the people of Bugthorpe who fought in the First World War and appear on the Roll of Honour.
